Free Spins Bonuses
The best free spins offers from top casinos.
Free spins are the most common bonus format in online slots. The number of spins is the marketing number. The value per spin is the number that determines what the offer is actually worth. We calculate both for every offer on this page.

Free Spins Bonuses — What a Spin Is Actually Worth
Free spins are the most common bonus format at online casinos. The casino awards a number of spins (typically 10-200) at a fixed bet value on a specified slot. The appeal is tangible: you watch the reels spin and see wins accumulate without betting your own money. The value depends entirely on the terms attached — the spin value, the game’s RTP, and what happens to your winnings (wagered or withdrawable).
I evaluate free spins on their expected cash value after all terms are applied, not on the number of spins. 200 free spins at £0.10 on a 94% RTP slot with 40x wagering on winnings is worth less than 20 no-wagering free spins at £0.20 on a 96.50% RTP slot. The headline number of spins is a marketing metric, not a value metric.
How Free Spins Work
Spin Value
Each free spin has a fixed bet value, typically £0.10-£0.25. The value is set by the casino, not by you. Your expected return per spin = spin value x game RTP. A £0.10 spin on a 96% RTP slot has an expected return of £0.096. Over 100 spins, your expected total winnings = 100 x £0.096 = £9.60.
The spin value matters more than the number of spins. 50 spins at £0.20 (total bet value: £10) produces higher expected winnings than 100 spins at £0.10 (total bet value: £10) on the same game — actually, the total bet value is equal, so expected winnings are equal. What changes the outcome is the game RTP, volatility, and whether a bonus round triggers during the spin session.
Designated Games
Free spins are almost always restricted to a specific slot chosen by the casino. Common choices: Sweet Bonanza, Gates of Olympus, Starburst, Book of Dead, Big Bass Bonanza. The casino selects games based on their RTP and volatility profile — lower RTP games cost the casino less per spin awarded.
You cannot choose which game to play the free spins on (unless specifically stated). If the designated game has a 94% RTP instead of 96.50%, each spin is worth approximately 2.5% less. Over 100 spins at £0.10, the difference is approximately £0.25 in expected value — not enormous for a single bonus, but it illustrates how game selection affects bonus value.
Winnings Treatment
This is the critical distinction. Free spin winnings are treated in one of three ways:
Bonus funds with wagering requirements: the most common treatment. Your free spin winnings are credited as bonus money that must be wagered a specified number of times (typically 30x-50x) before withdrawal. The clearing cost calculation is the same as for welcome bonus wagering.
Cash with no wagering (wager-free): your winnings are credited as real money, withdrawable immediately. This is the most valuable format. Expected value = total spin value x RTP. No clearing cost deduction.
Capped winnings: regardless of what you win, the maximum withdrawal from free spin winnings is capped (e.g., £100 maximum). This limits upside while maintaining the same downside expectations.
Free Spins Valuation
For wagered free spins, calculate the value:
Step 1: Expected winnings = number of spins x spin value x game RTP
Step 2: Wagering required = expected winnings x wagering multiplier
Step 3: Expected loss during clearing = wagering required x (1 – clearing game RTP)
Step 4: Net value = expected winnings – expected loss during clearing
Example: 100 free spins, £0.10 value, 96% RTP game, 35x wagering on winnings
Expected winnings: 100 x £0.10 x 0.96 = £9.60
Wagering required: £9.60 x 35 = £336
Expected clearing loss: £336 x 0.04 = £13.44
Net value: £9.60 – £13.44 = -£3.84
These 100 free spins have a negative expected value. You are expected to lose approximately £3.84 trying to clear the wagering on your winnings. The “free” spins cost you money in expected terms.
For no-wagering free spins, the calculation is simpler:
Expected value: 100 x £0.10 x 0.96 = £9.60
No clearing cost. Net value: +£9.60.
Free Spins as Part of Welcome Packages
Many welcome bonuses include free spins alongside the deposit match. The spins may be awarded all at once or distributed over several days (e.g., 20 spins per day for 10 days). Staggered distribution keeps you logging in daily, which is the casino’s goal — not your convenience.
When evaluating a welcome package, calculate the deposit match value and the free spins value separately, then combine them. The free spins often represent a smaller portion of the total value than the deposit match, but they provide immediate play without wagering your own funds.
Free Spins Without Deposit
No-deposit free spins are awarded on registration without any deposit. These carry the highest wagering requirements (50x-99x on winnings is common) and the lowest withdrawal caps (£20-£50 typical). The expected value is very close to zero. Their practical value is as a casino trial — you get to play real-money slots and evaluate the platform without financial commitment.
